A Charles I Oak Bench, or “Long Stool”

The well-grained single plank top, having a deep moulded edge, is secured to the seat rails by 10 square oak pegs.

The seat rails themselves have a strong run-moulding along the centre, and a shallow chamfer on the bottom edge.

The well-turned “gun barrel” legs finish in a long block foot, and are joined by an “H” stretcher, run-moulded on each side.

The colour and condition are outstanding.

English, circa 1635-40.
